A merged franchise of fantasy flicks during the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) took the reins in the box office during opening day.

Based on figures the 2010 MMFF Organizing Committee supplied Yahoo! Southeast Asia, “Si Agimat at Si Enteng Kabisote,” which stars Sen. Bong Revilla and Vic Sotto, had an opening day gross of P31 million as the festival commenced on Christmas Day. The film, a co-production of Revilla’s Imus Productions, Sotto’s M-Zet Films, OctoArts Films, and APT Productions, was touted as the festival top-grosser due to its wide audience reach, appealing visual effects, and a dream match-up of top-grossing lead actors.

Ai Ai delas Alas’s “Ang Tanging Ina Mo (Last Na ‘To),” the final chapter of another blockbuster film franchise from Star Cinema, finished second with a first-day gross of P20 million.

At third is the Kris Aquino-led horror film “Dalaw,” which is another Star Cinema entry, grossing P12.5 million on opening day. A close fourth is Regal Films’ “Shake, Rattle and Roll 12,” with P11.8 million.

Here are the rest of the festival entries and their box office earnings last December 25:

“RPG Metanoia” (Star Cinema, Ambient Media) – P5.1 million

“Super Inday and the Golden Bibe” (Regal Films) – P4.7 million

“Rosario” (Cinemabuhay, Studio 5) – P3.2 million

“Father Jejemon” (RVQ Productions) – P1.4 million
