Gretchen on Derek issue: Out with the old, in with the new

Gretchen on Derek issue: Out with the old, in with the new

MANILA, Philippines – Now that Derek Ramsay is back from his month-long vacation in South Africa, Gretchen Barretto is hounded again by a controversy involving her, the actor and the actor’s girlfriend, Angelica Panganiban.

Ramsay and Panganiban flew to South Africa for a long break last month, but before they left a word war ensued between Barretto and Panganiban.

This time, instead of commenting, Barretto chose to dismiss the issue.

She said: “Out with the old, in with the new. Old na yang chismis na yan.”

When asked if Ramsay gave her his solo pictures, Barretto safely answered: “Sabi niya may pasalubong siya para sa lahat.”

According to reports, the word war began after Barretto joked in a television interview that she wanted Ramsay’s solo pictures as presents once he returned from his trip abroad. This reportedly irked Panganiban.

In her Twitter account, Panganiban has posted 2 controversial tweets.

One tweet read: “Totoo nga... Nakakaloka pala talaga. Oh well... Nakakaawa ka.. Mukhang di ka masaya.. Goodnight.”

The other said: “Tarrrraaaayyy!!! Single ka teh? :)”

Panganiban did not directly say that she was referring to Barretto.

When sought for comment, Barretto countered: “You want war, I'll give you war. I’ll be there in my red stilettos.”

Barretto and Ramsay are the lead stars of ABS-CBN’s latest television series “Magkaribal.”

New film

Meanwhile, Barretto is very busy these days juggling her time for family and her projects.

Weeks after "Magkaribal’s" premiere, it is now doing well in TV ratings. Barretto, who made it on Preview magazine’s 2010 Best Dressed List, said she is happy that people enjoy watching her portray the role of Victoria.

Aside from commercials and “Magkaribal,” the controversial actress is also preparing for an upcoming movie with director Chito Roño.

“At napag-usapan na namin ‘yong pelikula with Angel Locsin, under Star Cinema and under the direction of Chito Roño,” she said.

Pacquiao is no Fighter of the Decade?Mayweather Sr.

Floyd Mayweather, Sr. and Floyd Mayweather, Jr.

MANILA, Philippines – Floyd Mayweather, Sr. has not yet gotten over the fact that the Boxing Writers Association of America (BWAA) bestowed the Fighter of the Decade Award on Manny Pacquiao instead of his son, Floyd Mayweather, Jr.

“Pacquiao ain't no f***ing fighter of the decade. He is a p**sy,” Floyd Sr. told Percy Crawford of FightHype.com.

“Pacquiao has 2 draws and a loss in this decade. Lil Floyd is undefeated in this decade and in his career,” argued the elder Mayweather.

The Filipino boxing superstar, a 7-division world champion and the Sarangani Province congressman-elect, has 51 wins (with 38 knockouts), 3 losses and 2 draws.

The unbeaten Floyd Jr. of the United States has 41 victories with 25 knockouts.

Floyd Sr. went on to ask what would happen if Mayweather defeats Pacquiao in their possible showdown which is being negotiated by Top Rank, Inc. and Golden Boy Promotions.

He said, “What award they gonna give my son when he whoops Pacquiao?”

According to Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar de la Hoya, they are “very close” to finalizing the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight deal. (Read: De la Hoya: Pacquiao-Mayweather almost a done deal)

Floyd Sr. then took a shot at the BWAA for handing over its first Fighter of the Decade Award to Pacquiao.

“That's the kind of sh*t that hurts boxing. It makes no sense. Too many people in the sport don't know what the f**k's going on. That kind of sh*t right there is why boxing stays on the ropes,” he lamented.

Aside from being declared as Fighter of the Decade, Pacquiao was also named the Fighter of the Year early this month in New York.

BWAA President Jack Hirsch explained that Pacquiao had more dominating victories from 2000 to 2009 such as his KO wins over Marco Antonio Barrera, Erik Morales, Oscar de la Hoya, Ricky Hatton and Miguel Cotto.

The Filipino boxing icon edged Floyd Jr. and Joe Calzaghe, both undefeated fighters, in the BWAA voting. (Read: Why Pacquiao won Fighter of Decade Award) – With reports from Examiner.com and FightHype.com

Gretchen gets almost naked during taping

MANILA, Philippines - Actress Gretchen Barretto figured in a wardrobe malfunction accident while she was with her newest on-screen partner Derek Ramsay.

While taping for her upcoming series "Magkaribal," the hem of Gretchen's red gown was caught in a wheel of a moving motorbike, pulling down her gown in the process.

The wardrobe malfunction happened while Derek was the one driving the motorbike.

"We are on a motorbike. Gretchen is looking beautiful at the back of the bike with her long gown and we are trying to get this effect na we will fly by the camera with dress," Derek said.

"Nakayakap ako sa inyo. Maya maya nakaganoon na ako (leaning backward). Akala ko may humihila. 'Yon pala yong tire inipit 'yong gown tapos sumigaw ako," Gretchen said.

Derek said Gretchen's gown was pulled down.

"In other words nahubaran ako," La Greta added.

"So ako naman I felt her let go so I hit the brakes. She fell forward then she just said 'don't move.' Alam ko na. When I hit the brakes she fell forward so I was able to cover her," Derek said.

Gretchen added, "Nung nahulog [yung gown] na talagang down, wala akong sticker bra, wala akong niplets. Buti na lang nakatalikod si Derek. Pero sabi niya may mirror siya sa harap pero hindi siya tumingin.

"Kung hindi dahil kay Derek wala na ako ngayon. Buhay ako dahil sa kanya. Thank you ha," Gretchen told Derek.

Gretchen said that she's just thankful that she and Derek were not hurt in the incident. What makes her sad, though, was her expensive red gown, which according to reports, is worth P80,000.

"Hindi ko sasabihin kung magkano. Actually hindi ko pa nababayaran," Gretchen said.

MANILA, Philippines – Sarangani Province Congressman-elect and 7-division world champion Manny Pacquiao met with presidential frontrunner Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III of the Liberal Party on Tuesday evening.

The Filipino boxing icon paid a visit to the Aquino family residence along Times Street in West Triangle, Quezon City for around 2 hours.

This was confirmed by Aquino campaign spokesperson Atty. Edwin Lacierda. He said the World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight champion was accompanied by his wife, Jinkee.

“Nag-usap kami mga 45 minutes… okay naman,” Pacquiao told ABS-CBN's Dyan Castillejo in a telephone interview. “Kuwentuhan lang paano tutulungan ang bayan.”

Pacquiao told reporters upon his arrival in Manila early Tuesday that he has several projects in mind for his province and the country.

He said he wants to help the Philippines win its first Olympic gold medal. He also wants to provide livelihood programs to fishermen and farmers in Sarangani Province.

Pacquiao supported one of Aquino’s rivals, Nacionalista Party standard-bearer Sen. Manuel “Manny” Villar, Jr, for the May 10 polls.

A television advertisement for Villar even featured Pacquiao seemingly alluding to Aquino's lackluster record in government.

This caused some friction in his friendship with Aquino’s sister, actress and television host Kris Aquino.

But Kris announced Tuesday night that she has made up with the pound-for-pound king.

Pokwang refuses to talk about Willie Revillame's absence in Wowowee

Taking a break from her busy schedule, comedienne and TV host Pokwang visited San Fernando, Pampanga yesterday, May 5, to accompany Kris Aquino and other celebrities in campaigning for Liberal Party standard bearers Noynoy Aquino and Mar Roxas.

PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) caught up with Pokwang onstage to talk to her about her campaign experience. Although she is one of the co-hosts of Willie Revillame, an endorser of Manny Villar, in Wowowee, Pokwang said she knows her "true colors."

"Para sa akin, obvious na, 'no, kung sino talaga ang kulay ko. I love sunrise!" she declared cheerfully.

Pokwang said she never hesitated to attend her first Noynoy rally out of gratitude for the Aquinos. "Because sobrang mahal na mahal ako ng Aquino family, especially Ms. Kris. Yung pakikisama niya sa akin nung nagsisimula pa lang ako sa ABS, talagang nakita ko na ang suporta niya sa akin. At ibinabalik ko lang po ang ibinigay niya sa akin."

Besides, Pokwang said Willie does not mind if his colleagues are not "orange."

"Yun lang po ang maganda sa amin sa Wowowee, nagrerespetuhan po kami, nirerespeto po kami ni Kuya Will, at ganun din po ang kanyang paniniwala, bilang respetuhan po sa kanya-kanyang kagustuhan," she said.

Shifting gears, we asked Pokwang why Willie was absent in that day's episode of the ABS-CBN noontime show. The outspoken TV host is currently involved in a controversy wherein he actually threatened to resign from Wowowee.

But Pokwang cut our interview abruptly. "Well, may mga inaayos lang po siyang mga ano... Well, anyway, yun na 'yon. Thank you," she said.
